Lamma Island 南丫島10/10/2010

Today, let's have a trip to Lamma island. There  is one of the most popular scenic spots in Hong Kong, famous for its fresh seafood and natural scenery. Lamma Island is the third largest island in HK. “Lamma” in Chinese means “ the southern tree branch”, which resembles the shape of the island.

Next to the prier is Yung Shue Wan Main Street, There are many seafood restaurants, you can try the delicious seafood here. 

There are also some pubs opened on the main street creating a unique romantic atmosphere.

Other than delicacies, there are many small shops selling handmade art crafts, green products, and all sorts of handmade biscuits along Yung Shue Wan Street.

Another characteristic of Lamma Island is the Lamma Winds. The big fan generate one million units of power a year, which is enough for usage of 250 families.

It also features an Exhibition Centre to provide the information about the power station and other kinds of renewable energy.

The red line is the The Family Trail running form Yung Shue Wan to Sok Kwu Wan on the island is also a hot spot for hikers and visitors.

Hung Shing Yeh Beach and Lo So Shing Beach are a favorite place for swimmers because the sand here is tiny and smooth while the sea water is clean and clear. Free barbecue facilities are available beside the beach.

The cave is named after Japan invaded HK, a Japanese navy squad named “Sang Fung” flotilla once hid their ships in the cave for defense purpose. Now, you can only watch outside the cave, but can not walk in.

Lamma Fisherfolk’s Village is a showcase of the local fisherfolk culture and the history of fishery industry in HK.The Village comprises an authentic fishing junk, traditional dragon boats, an exhibition hall, themed folklore booths, fishing raft and dwellings. Visitors can learn the heritages and livings of the boats community of Hong Kong.

Upper Lascar Row 摩羅上街 10/10/2010

Hong Kong Island has a lot traditional and attractive street. Today, I introduce the famous street to you. Upper Lascar Row is located Mid-level, Sheung Wan.

Upper Lascar Row is a narrow alley. There is a numerous antique shop and stalls on both side of the street.

Why the street call Upper Lascar Row? The name it is come from 30^th century. In 30^th century, there is plenty of Indian lived and frequented in Upper Lascar Row. In that time, Indian also called Lascar. Therefore the street called Upper Lascar Row. Upper Lascar Row has a nickname Cat Street. In Cantonese slang thieves are called rats, and the dealers who purchase goods from the rats are cats. In past there is common joke that, if you had something stolen, you were almost certain to find it for sale back in Cat Street. It is very funny slang.

Feeling:

You can see Upper Lascar Row has a numerous antique shop and stalls on both side of the narrow alley. But narrow alley did not let me have a oppression feel. However, my eyes cannot switch out the antiques from the stalls.

You can feel the antiques are inside the antique shops on both side of the street are very expensive, unique and huge. Although the stall’s antiques are not expensive than the shop, the stall’s antiques are exquisite and special. The antiques are atrracted a lot of foreigners to come here. They come here to searching treasure. You can come to be a treasure hunter and find own treasure.

In 30^th century, Upper Lascar Row was thronged with people. After time and time again, the number of antique stalls are become decreased. The street seems to be quite silent. Come! Before the street is vanish from Hong Kong

Sai Yeung Choi Street South 西洋菜南街 8/10/2010

Mong Kok is a very popular place for young people to visit. Last Friday we went to Sai Yeung Choi Street South. There are many different shops in one long street, such as cosmetic shops, electric appliance stores, boutiques and book shops. The products of these shops are good in quality with attractive pricing. This attracts thousands of people visit there including both tourists and local people. Therefore ‘Hong Kong Akihabara’ is a nickname for Sai Yeung Choi Street South.

 Sai Yeung Choi Street South have many billboards and it is very beautiful at night.

 

 

There are many cosmetic shops and I had spend a lot on cosmetics. >u<

There is a cinima.

There are many restaurants with a variety of choices, such as Chinese style, Western style and Korean style etc.

The street would become pedestrian area in the following period, on Monday to Saturday from 16:00 to 0:00; on Sunday from 12:00 to 0:00. Visitor who would drive a car to the street should aware of this. Inside the pedestrian area, there are some street performers. They have different performances such as playing music and playing magic.
