Sha Tin Racecourse 沙田馬埸 17/10/2010

Sha Tin Racecourse is located in east of New Territories. It is the second racecourse in Hong Kong. It has a retractable roof over the parade ring, two grandstands, a big betting hall, Gift shop and racing museum etc. For the design of the racecourse, it is ‘Classical British’ Style. It gives audience a better view of the race.

In Hong Kong, betting in horse race is a very common activity. It just cost 10 HKD to get in the racecourse. However, it is very important that not to become problem gambling.

 One of the activity of the event is photo opportunity with Shetland ponies.

This is the Sa Sa "Charming Lady" Make-up Workshop.

The horse was going to the gate.

The naught horse didn't want to race.

Finally, it had to withdraw from the race.

The winning horse rider was waving to the audiences.

There are a lot of different restaurant. If you want to have a fine dinning there, you have to join the Jockey Club and have reservation.

It is my first experience of visiting the Sha Tin Racecourse. It is a special race event named ‘Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse Day’. Every audience could get a gift in the entrance. I was very lucky; I saw a horse being naught that lastly had to withdraw from the race. It is a very rare situation.

Tuen Mun Pier Head, Tuen Mun Ferry Pier Stop(MTR Light Rail), Ocean Walk and Pierhead Garden are all part of the same complex that consists of a light rail terminus, a bus terminus, a shopping center and a private residence. It is named after its close proximity with the Tuen Mun Ferry Pier. The complex is owned by KCRC Corporation. It has operated since November, 1986

 

Butterfly beach

Hong Kong has a long coastline that is full of twists and turns with many ays and beaches. Many of them are well sheltered by mountains nearby, as Hong Kong is a mountainous place. As a result, large waves seldom appear at the bays, making them suitable for swimming. Butterfly beach is one of popular beach in Hong Kong. It located in south of Tuen Mun New Town, west

 of Tuen Mun Ferry Pier. It is the second largest beach in Tuen Mun, beside the beach there are BBQ area and shopping malls. Therefor many tourists go to this beach when they travel in New Territories.

Tuen Mun Butterfly Beach Park

Tuen Mun Butterfly Beach Park is situated in Lung Mun Road, Area 45B. It is built along the Butterfly Beach, occupying 6.3 hestares in area. There are garden, pavilion, promenade, BBQ area and mini-soccer pitch. It is a refreshing recreational attraction for residents in southern Tuen Mun.

20101015 - Cheung Chau 長洲

Besides going to Lamma Island, there are still some good island in Hong Kong that we should visit.
This time we are going to Cheung Chau!

Cheung Chau is also call Dumbbell Island. It is because it looks like a dumbell!
But I think not many people alert that, as the Hong Kong people are call it Cheung Chau and even in the travel guide.It is a small island 10km southwest of Hong Kong Island.

Therefore, we need to take the ferry to go to there. We can take the ferry on Central Pier.

Today's trip is very exciting, just because we haven't make any plan before we visit Cheung Chau!

Tung Wan(東灣)

We waiting for get in to the hiding place of Cheung Po Tsai

The hiding place of Cheung Po Tsai is on the mountain and facing to the ocean. In fact, the place is a "cave". It only can let one person pass through each time. When we get inside, we can't see anything.  It is too dark! Nowdays, there is nothing in the cave. Therefore, I suggest that you no need to have a great expectation. For my suggestion, if you want to visit the place, remember to bring along with the torch!

Also, there is not bus in the Cheung Chau. Therefore, I suggest you can rent the bicycle to get around Cheung Chau!

11/10/2010 Hong Kong Space Museum 香港太空館

In Hong Kong, there are many different theme of Museums such as Hong Kong Museum of History and Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence. These kind of Museums are also define as Hong Kong attractions. Today we visit one of the most popular Museums - Hong Kong Space Museum. The most attractive point is it's outlook. The unique egg-shaped dome renders the 8000-square-metre museum to be one of the most famous landmarks in Hong Kong.


Inside the Museum, you can see different parts. The planetarium's nucleus, has an egg-shaped dome structure is the Stanley Ho Space Theatre. Some Omnimax Shows, Sky Shows perform there though the huge screen. This Omnimax Shows of this period are IMAX Under the Sea and Grand Canyon Adventure. We finally bought tickets and watched IMAX Under the Sea. It was really exciting! The huge screen made you felt that you actually under the water and closely to animals under the sea. Some of them we hadn't seen before but they are alive under deep water. It was a excellent fictitious journey to me.

Also, we visited the thematic exhibition halls - The Hall of Space Science. This is a really good attraction for people who like Science subject. In the hall, you can see many display boards of knowledge about Science and Space. The message not only deliver by board but also though interactive machines like games in computor. Some of them you can try by yourself actually. It is a nice experience for me to gain knowledge though this channel.

At the lobby, there are some exhibition boards introducing Omnimax Shows and Sky Shows. You can get more details of the show from the board. At the side of the lobby, a small sourvernir shop overthere. The related sourvernir inculding geographical globe, dinosaurs puzzle etc..

Lamma Island 南丫島10/10/2010

Today, let's have a trip to Lamma island. There  is one of the most popular scenic spots in Hong Kong, famous for its fresh seafood and natural scenery. Lamma Island is the third largest island in HK. “Lamma” in Chinese means “ the southern tree branch”, which resembles the shape of the island.

Next to the prier is Yung Shue Wan Main Street, There are many seafood restaurants, you can try the delicious seafood here. 

There are also some pubs opened on the main street creating a unique romantic atmosphere.

Other than delicacies, there are many small shops selling handmade art crafts, green products, and all sorts of handmade biscuits along Yung Shue Wan Street.

Another characteristic of Lamma Island is the Lamma Winds. The big fan generate one million units of power a year, which is enough for usage of 250 families.

It also features an Exhibition Centre to provide the information about the power station and other kinds of renewable energy.

The red line is the The Family Trail running form Yung Shue Wan to Sok Kwu Wan on the island is also a hot spot for hikers and visitors.

Hung Shing Yeh Beach and Lo So Shing Beach are a favorite place for swimmers because the sand here is tiny and smooth while the sea water is clean and clear. Free barbecue facilities are available beside the beach.

The cave is named after Japan invaded HK, a Japanese navy squad named “Sang Fung” flotilla once hid their ships in the cave for defense purpose. Now, you can only watch outside the cave, but can not walk in.

Lamma Fisherfolk’s Village is a showcase of the local fisherfolk culture and the history of fishery industry in HK.The Village comprises an authentic fishing junk, traditional dragon boats, an exhibition hall, themed folklore booths, fishing raft and dwellings. Visitors can learn the heritages and livings of the boats community of Hong Kong.
